How to get star ratings on Google Shopping
October 29, 2026 · RealProof team
Many merchants add a review app and expect stars to appear on Google Shopping. They usually do not, because Shopping stars use a different system from your product page.
Two kinds of stars
- Search results (rich results): Google can read structured data on your product page and sometimes show stars in normal search.
- Shopping listings: these come from Google Merchant Center's product ratings programme, which needs a separate reviews feed.
What the feed needs
- A feed URL that Merchant Center can fetch on a schedule
- A product identifier for each reviewed product: a barcode (GTIN) or SKU with brand
- Review text, rating, date and reviewer name
- Enough reviews overall. Google generally looks for around 50 before it shows ratings
Steps
- Create the feed from your review app.
- In Merchant Center, open Products → Data sources → Add product reviews feed and paste the URL.
- Make sure your products have barcodes or SKUs in Shopify.
- Wait for Google to process it. This can take days or weeks.
